You Hear Me, But Do You Really Listen?
An NVC afternoon for clearer, kinder conversations as Advent begins, in English
Have you ever tried to explain something important and still felt misunderstood? Or shared how you feel, only for it to come across as blame? Maybe you want to ask for something but worry about sounding demanding. Or you say yes when you really mean no, because you don’t want to hurt anyone.
This NVC workshop in Vienna is a warm, practical introduction to Nonviolent Communication, held in accessible English. No previous experience needed.
Why this workshop
These moments happen in families, friendships, partnerships, shared flats and workplaces. We long for connection, yet our words often leave us further apart. What if we could listen beyond the words, understand what matters to each person, and find ways of speaking that open doors instead of closing them?
What you will practise
Through short inputs, demonstrations and paired exercises, we will explore how to:
- Notice the difference between what happened and the story we tell ourselves about it
- Recognise our feelings and the human needs beneath them
- Listen with empathy, without immediately giving advice, defending ourselves or trying to fix things
- Express ourselves honestly and make clear requests that invite cooperation, while leaving room for an honest “no”
How the afternoon unfolds
We will start with the foundations of Nonviolent Communication: observations, feelings, need and empathic listening. Then we will apply the learnings on making clear, concrete requests.
As Advent begins, this is an invitation to slow down and reconnect with what matters, with ourselves and with the people around us. The seasonal theme is simply a frame for reflection; people of all cultures and beliefs are warmly welcome. You decide how much you share.
